The Thracian (Latin: Thraex) was one of the gladiator figures present in ancient Rome and which was based on the warriors of Thrace.
With a light and agile physique, he was protected by a rectangular or round shield worn on the left arm, leather bands or an armored arm on the right, greaves that reached above the knee, and a helmet usually decorated with a griffin and feathers.
He was sometimes also armed with a very characteristic curved sword (sica supina), used to strike the opponent from behind or in the neck with a slash from above.
In battles he was often opposed to Mirmillone.
